Motherland will be completely freed from clutches of terrorism even at the cost of sacrificing life - President emphasizes at the May Day celebration

President Maithripala Sirisena says the great sorrow emerged in the hearts of all Sri Lankans due to the April 21 tragedy should turn into a strength to eliminate terrorism from the country.

The President also emphasized that as a nation all must unite under a one flag with a firm determination and courage to establish peace in the country, while eliminating terrorism with the heartbreaking memories faced by all on that date.

President Sirisena made these remarks addressing the May Day celebrations held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo, today (01).

This May Day celebration was organized by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Trade Union Federation and members of the party, including senior leaders of the party participated on this occasion.

'Report of the three-member committee appointed to investigate regarding terrorist attacks will be opened for all' - President

President Maithripala Sirisena says that after receiving the report of the three-member committee appointed to investigate the causes and background for the terrorist attacks, the content of that report will be opened for all the parties.

The committee is headed by a retired Supreme Court Judge and the report of the committee is scheduled to submit within two weeks. The President said that after receiving that report it will be present to the Parliament and the future security measures will be taken accordingly.

President Sirisena made these remarks during a meeting held with the senior security officers, including the newly appointed Secretary of Defence General Shantha Kottegoda at the Ministry of Defence, today (30).

The operation against the illegal drugs will be carried on till a successful end despite any challenge, said the President

President Sirisena made these remarks addressing an illegal drug prevention program held at Witzwaiyk Garden, Modara under the guidance of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and with the participation of many distinguished religious leaders today (31).President Maithripala Sirisena said that he took the battle against illegal drugs on his shoulders without considering the risk it has over his own life because he is determined to build an ethical country for the future generation and emphasized that he will carry on this crusade amidst any challenge.

The President who emphasized that he made his operations against illegal drugs since he was Member of Parliament, and added that after he became the President it was carried on with much strength and vigour.

A betterment of the effects of anti drugs campaign can be experienced by mid year, President

Rs.423 million to conduct the Gramashakthi People's movement in the Southern province

President Sirisena says that betterment in the situation regarding the program against drugs carried on by the government can be experienced in the middle of this year.

The broad and strong program conducted by this government is the main cause behind it said the President.

President Maithripala Sirisena mentioned this addressing the southern province action committee of Gramashakthi People's Movement held at the administrative complex of Hambanthota today (21).

The drug issue as well as all the menace that make all the people fall in to poverty trap should be considered and that the Gramashakthi People's Movement is carrying on a momentous project to build a strong nation which is independent and strong, motioned the President.

The government will intervene to save the poverty striken people who are trapped in micro monetary debts, asured the President.

A special week will be named after the Grama shakthi project and these programs will be speedily conducted, according the instructions of the President.
